Beyond the Ordinary Cherry
This is where our journey begins with selecting varieties of fruit, flowers, and trees for Wildwood. As we work towards the goals of clearing the land and planning out the gardens and orchards, we have selected a few fruit trees and berry bushes for trial. Nanking Cherry is one of the fruit varieties we are growing in pots and have been very pleased with the success and beauty of this bush. This is the first year that these cherry bushes have set fruit. The small cherries are not only a beautiful red color, but they pair perfect with the bright green foliage. Together, the pairing is a perfect ornamental bush for the orchard or garden. We are very pleased with this variety and plan to add three bushes in the orchard.

The cherries are delicious! They are great for jam and jellies, fresh eating, and baking. The Nanking Cherry can grow to the height of 10 feet and a width of six feet. With multiple uses, they are a stunning bush that can be used as a hedge row.
A mature Nanking Cherry can produce over fifty pounds of fruit or more. Plenty of fruit to share with the many song birds that we hope to see in the gardens and orchard.

As we grow the bushes, they will be shaped and maintained to allow for the size we choose to keep. Nanking Cherry bushes usually start producing fruit in early summer from May through June and sometimes into July.
I love gardening and growing new things. I have expanded my collection of roses and blueberry bushes, along with the trial varieties of fruit for Wildwood. We are excited about the beautiful things we are growing and will be planting at Wildwood.
Thanks for coming here to spend time and walking through my front gate!
